Here’s a guide to the symphony’s exciting upcoming performances 

Looking for a night of classical entertainment? Over the next few months, the Palm Beach Symphony will welcome world-famous pianists, cello players, and violin players to perform some of the most famous pieces of classical music as part of their Masterworks Series. The concerts will take place at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in Downtown West Palm Beach, and tickets can be purchased at palmbeachsymphony.org. Whether you’re already a classical music fan or you’d like to discover the magic of the symphony, there’s an exciting lineup of shows to look forward to. 

 

Misha Dichter, Piano

Get ready for an evening of talented piano playing from famous American pianist Misha Dichter, who has been playing internationally for more than five decades. Dichter grew up in Los Angeles and began playing the piano at just five years old, later attending the Juilliard School in New York City. You can hear Ditcher’s incredible piano playing on December 16th, where he will perform a series of international pieces. The program features works by famous Russian composers, including Rimsky-Korsakov’s Snow Maiden Suite and Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.

 

Alisa Weilerstein, Cello

Start the new year off with a concert by cellist Alisa Weilerstein, known for her passionate performances. The American musician comes from a musical family and discovered her love of the cello at a young age. At four years old, she convinced her parents to buy her a cello, and at just 13, she made her first professional debut playing Tchaikovsky’s “Rococo” Variations with The Cleveland Orchestra. Since then, Weilerstein has played in major orchestras in the United States, Europe, and Asia. On January 13th, you can have the chance to see this talented cellist play dramatic pieces like Strauss’ Alpine Symphony, which depicts the journey of climbing the Alps.

 

Vadim Repin, Violin

Considered one of the world’s most compelling violinists, Vadim Repin will take the stage on March 2. The Russian-born violinist found his love of music early, making his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York at the age of 15. Following that, he’s performed with the world’s greatest orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Orchestre de Paris. Repin’s performance will include something extra special for guests: a brand-new Lullaby commissioned just for the Palm Beach Symphony. Paired with a performance of Brahms’ Symphony No. 3, this is an exciting opportunity to experience history in the making. 

 

Simon Trpčeski, Piano

If you want a dose of high-energy on a Sunday afternoon, pianist Simon Trpčeski is known to put on an exciting show. Born in Macedonia, Trpčeski has collaborated with more than 100 orchestras across four continents. The April concert promises emotional performances, including Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 and Shostakovich’s dramatic Symphony No. 5, known for its dramatic opening and triumphant finale. For those curious about the symphony, this concert is a great introduction. It promises to deliver both a dramatic performance and the chance to witness a superstar pianist in action. 

 

Emanuel Ax, Piano

An afternoon concert with Emanuel Ax is the perfect way to end the Masterworks Series. Born in Ukraine and raised in Canada, legendary pianist Emanuel Ax quickly made his mark by securing the prestigious Young Concert Artists Award early in his career. Ax is also a Grammy-winning performer and has recorded with legendary cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Ax’s West Palm Beach performance will include performances by two legendary composers: Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22 and Beethoven’s Egmont Overture. The famous pianist’s performance is a powerful finale perfect for introducing young listeners to the orchestra.

 

Palm Beach Symphony Lunch and Learn Series

Palm Beach Symphony will host its popular Lunch & Learn Series, an intimate program that offers attendees a unique opportunity to engage directly with a symphony member over a gourmet meal. Hosted by a symphony member or the celebrated Music Director, Gerard Schwarz, the Lunch & Learn series is held on the Thursday preceding each concert. Upcoming Lunch & Learn events are scheduled for December 11th, January 8th, and February 26th. 

The events are held in the conference room at the Palm Beach Symphony offices, located in the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties building. Admission is $125 per event or $600 for a subscription to all six, and tickets can be purchased at palmbeachsymphony.org.
