Bringing Books To Life In Downtown West Palm Beach With Kahani’s Outdoor Theater

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (July 12, 2024) – The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is gearing up to launch the second of three “reader’s theater” events in its series celebrating Kahani: A Reader’s Theater. This unique format invites the audience to become active participants through storytelling, drama, and community engagement. Selected by the DDA through its Mini-Placemaking Grant program, Kahani aims to foster a vibrant cultural experience that brings the community together.

The outdoor readings and interactive plays, led by Pranati “Pranoo” Kumar, owner of Rohi’s Readery, are an open workshop for everyone to enjoy.

The second installment taking place on July 20 will focus on the book Awesomely Emma by Amy Webb. Participants will dive into the world of Emma, a talented young artist with limb differences as she navigates challenges, discovers her creativity and journeys through self-discovery. The event will take place at the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach, 411 Clematis Street, from 2 – 4pm.

The third workshop takes place on September 28 and centers around the book Your Voice, Your Vote from acclaimed author Leah Anderson and illustrator Keisha Morris. With warm illustrations, engaging text, and insightful timeline, “Your Voice, Your Vote” will inspire readers to embrace this civic duty in the face of today’s continued fight for voting rights.

“This is an opportunity for the public to support the local art community and take part in a unique experience when visiting Downtown West Palm Beach,” said Sherryl Muriente, public realm director for the DDA. “Our community is filled with creative individuals that curated these ideas to drive engagement and togetherness.”

“We aim to bring the vibrant stories of historically marginalized communities to life to reflect the richness of our various identities,” said Kumar. This project promotes inclusivity and contributes to a more connected and culturally enriched environment.”

These events are free to attend, and those wishing to learn more can visit DowntownWPB.com/Kahani or call 561-833-8873.
