One of the best things about Downtown West Palm Beach is its incredible food scene, which comes alive during the weekend brunch rush. Nothing beats a sunny Sunday spent on a patio, sipping a mimosa, and digging into a perfect stack of pancakes or a hot dish of savory chicken and waffles. Ready to find a new go-to spot? Here are a few of the best brunches in Downtown West Palm Beach.   

Avocado Grill 

Just two blocks from the Intracoastal on Datura Street, Avocado Grill is a stylish bistro that has won numerous awards and is recognized as one of the best brunch spots in Downtown West Palm Beach. The inside feels like hanging out in a cozy garden, decked out with emerald-colored booths, wicker lamps, and flowers draped from the ceiling. Outside, there’s plenty of patio seating where you can enjoy a delicious brunch (and a little people watching, too). Although the restaurant offers a great lunch and dinner menu, brunch is where they truly shine. Don’t let the name fool you; while they have lots of avocado-based dishes, their menu features a smorgasbord of flavors. Some of their best dishes are the spiced lamb sliders, crispy calamari, and chicken empanadas. However, if you’re craving avocado, try the avocado toast, served on a flaky croissant. Pair your brunch with a cold glass of sparkling rosé or create a custom margarita with flavor options like coconut and passionfruit.  

Proper Grit at The Ben  

Sometimes food just tastes better when it’s served in a gorgeous setting. Consider that to be the case with Proper Grit, the flagship restaurant inside The Ben hotel. The restaurant’s design is a departure from the coastal decor that many Florida restaurants have adopted. Instead, Proper Grit has a grown-up, moody feel with weathered leather furniture, exposed brick walls, and navy seating that complements the decorative floor tiles. And fortunately, the breakfast menu is just as warm and welcoming as the dining room. Consider ordering the blueberry pancakes, made with a zingy blueberry lemon curd, and for something more decadent, spring for the Nutella French Toast, topped with a creamy mascarpone.  The restaurant also offers a Weekend Tea, which comes with mini savory bites (think lobster rolls, black truffle Cuban sandwiches, and fruit tarts) along with a selection of teas or tea-infused cocktails.   

Batch New Southern Kitchen and Tap   

If you haven’t been to Batch New Southern Kitchen and Tap, get ready to indulge. The Clematis Street restaurant offers a master class in decadent Southern cuisine. Start with the buttermilk drop biscuits, accompanied by a side of house-made jam and chili-thyme honey butter, which will have you licking your fingers. Or opt for the equally delicious cast-iron peach cinnamon rolls, which are a crowd favorite. A lot of people come here for the Chicken ‘N’ Waffles and Shrimp ‘N’ Grits. The first dish is a Southern staple, but the restaurant puts a delicious spin on it by brining the chicken in sweet tea before deep frying it and serving it with their signature cheddar cornbread waffles. If you’re a fan of shrimp and grits, this particular iteration includes jumbo blackened shrimp served atop black pepper and cheddar grits. The best part of brunch here? You have the option of bottomless sangria, bellinis, or mimosas.

When you step into Blue Mountain Coffee House, the rich aroma of coffee greets you like an old friend. It’s no surprise, then, that the shop has built such a loyal following. Opened in 2020, the cozy coffee shop has become a favorite among visitors and locals in Downtown West Palm Beach.  

“The best part of being in Downtown West Palm Beach is seeing the growth and being able to be a part of it,” says the owner, Alison Boettcher. “Downtown West Palm Beach is filled with a lot of small businesses, which makes it a unique destination that people want to visit.”  

Located at 540 Clematis Street, Suite #3, Blue Mountain Coffee House is easy to spot with its navy exterior and classic striped awning. And if the weather’s great, you can enjoy the sunshine at one of the bistro tables out front or grab a cozy spot inside. If you haven’t paid a visit to Blue Mountain Coffee House yet, here are a few delicious reasons to go.  

The Fresh Coffee 

Blue Mountain Coffee House takes pride in its unique offering: the coffee sourced from Boettcher’s family estate in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica. The area’s cool climate and high altitude, combined with the rich soil, results in coffee beans with bold, rich flavors. Besides the freshly brewed coffee, other drink options include espresso, cappuccino, and macchiatos. Want to enjoy their fragrant coffee at home or in the office? The shop also sells it in convenient boxes of single-serve brew bags. 

 

Homemade Pastries and Desserts  

At Blue Mountain Coffee House, the coffee is not the only star. The shop also offers an impressive array of pastries, muffins, and cakes, many of which are made in-house. The cakes are sold by the slice and include decadent options like red velvet, chocolate, and cheesecake. Though you can’t go wrong with any of the desserts here, Boettcher says the bread pudding is one of her favorites. 

Delicious Breakfast Options 

Downtown West Palm Beach is known for its fantastic brunch options, and Blue Mountain Coffee House is part of that lineup. If you’re here for breakfast, there are traditional dishes like Eggs Benedict Florentine, which comes with a side of truffle fries. However, if your brunch ritual involves filling up on pancakes, there are both sweet and savory options available. Satisfy your sweet tooth with peach cobbler, chocolate pancakes, or blueberry pancakes. Or go savory with the German pancakes, which are made with spinach and onions and topped with goat cheese. You can also take your breakfast to go with a New York bagel or a sweet chocolate croissant.  

Traditional Jamaican Food  

Boettcher pays homage to her Jamaican heritage with several Jamaican dishes on the menu, available during lunchtime. If you can handle some island heat, consider ordering the Jerk Chicken salad or the Jerk Chicken wrap, both of which are deliciously spicy. Jamaican patties (a flaky dough-filled pastry stuffed with meat or veggies) are a staple in Jamaica, and you can get them here too. The coffee shop also offers visitors a taste of Jamaica’s national dish, ackee and saltfish, a flavorful dish of salted cod and ackee fruit. Offering a delicious departure from typical café fare, these dishes are perfect for a quick workday lunch or a leisurely weekend stop while exploring Downtown West Palm Beach.

Sloan’s Ice Cream opened its first location in Downtown West Palm Beach in 1999, and it’s been a South Florida favorite ever since. The old-fashioned ice cream parlor is located at the end of Clematis Street, just a block from the Intracoastal Waterway. Visiting Sloan’s is like stopping into a Willy Wonka-like wonderland of candy, desserts, and toys. The shelves are lined with novelty items, such as Slinkys and stuffed animals, and you can also buy jellybeans and gummy candy by the pound.  But let’s get to why you’re here, the ice cream. There are more than 30 flavors of ice cream, ranging from the popular mint chocolate chunk and fresh strawberry to more unusual flavors like carrot cake and coffee & donuts. You can load up your scoops in a cup or waffle cone and top your delicious treat with peanuts, marshmallows, and chunks of Snickers. Enjoy your treat at the restaurant’s seating under a striped awning or take it to go and stroll down to the waterfront.   

 

Venetian Gelato – 206 Clematis Street  

If you’re looking for a cool treat that’s a bit lighter, head to Venetian Gelato. The authentic gelato shop offers a variety of classic, fresh flavors, such as mango and pistachio, along with some refreshing tropical flavors like Key Lime Pie and pina colada. The offerings here aren’t limited to gelato; if you want to soothe your sweet tooth, the shop also offers treats like homemade red velvet and s’mores cookies and freshly prepared waffles with your choice of toppings like honey, Nutella, and, of course, gelato. The frozen yogurt comes in flavors like pineapple, Double Stuff’d Cookies n’ Cream, and Dulce de Leche, and there are over a dozen toppings to make your yogurt creation one of a kind. The yogurt is sold by weight, so you can purchase as much or as little as you like, and the flavors change frequently (which is an invitation to come back often).  This is a great place to take kids, who may enjoy the DIY feature of pulling the lever to dispense the frozen yogurt and carefully choosing their own toppings. Peace Wave Frozen Yogurt is an ideal stop after a day in the sun, and the yogurt bar is playfully adorned with hanging surfboards and features a comfortable seating area with orange pillows and ottomans.

Jose Marti Park: Situated at 351 N. Flagler Drive, Jose Marti Park is a charming and important green space dedicated to Cuban national hero Jose Marti. Featuring a statue of Marti, the park honors the city’s Cuban American community and Marti’s role in the fight for Cuban independence from Spain. South Cove Natural Area: South Cove Park is a six-acre natural oasis along Flagler Drive, just north of Lakeview Avenue and the Royal Park Bridge. Open from sunrise to sunset, this park was designed to enhance the water quality of the Intracoastal between Flagler Bridge and Royal Park Bridge. Visitors can stroll along a 556-foot boardwalk that leads to one of three mangrove islands, offering breathtaking views of the DowntownWPB skyline and Intracoastal Waterway.
