DDA Announces Expansion of its Ambassador Services to the Downtown Waterfront
August 5th, 2026
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (August 5, 2026) – The complement of civic services that has been making West Palm Beach’s downtown district more welcoming and enjoyable to live, work, and play is growing. The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has announced the expansion of its Downtown Ambassador program, which will now provide cleaning and pressure washing services along the downtown West Palm Beach waterfront and Flagler Drive corridor. To provide these services, six new Downtown Ambassadors will be added to the program managed by contractor Block by Block.
“The Downtown Ambassadors have become an essential part of the downtown experience, assisting visitors, supporting businesses, and helping create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment,” said Teneka James-Feaman, executive director of the DDA. “Expanding their presence to the waterfront allows us to bring that same level of service and care to one of downtown’s most active public spaces while continuing to enhance the experience for everyone who lives, works in, and visits Downtown West Palm Beach.”
Beginning September 1, the one-mile stretch of Flagler Drive from Okeechobee Blvd. to Eighth Street and west to Narcissus Ave., will join existing downtown district areas receiving essential DDA-led services from the Downtown Ambassadors. Services provided include:
- Maintaining a visible presence that supports a safe and welcoming environment by patrolling downtown, the waterfront, and adjacent public spaces seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., including Flagler Park, Chamber Park, Jose Marti Park, Meyer Amphitheater, Trinity Park, Centennial Square and Great Lawn.
- Preserving curb appeal with upkeep of high-traffic public sidewalks and walkways along the waterfront and in the parks through daily cleanings and a rotation of regular pressure-washing; daily emptying of city trash cans on public rights of way along the waterfront and Clematis Street (which will be temporarily suspended at locations hosting an event, and resume afterward)
- Enhancing hospitality by providing visitors with directions, transportation coordination, pedestrian assistance, and information about downtown and waterfront destinations, parking, and access
- Monitoring high-traffic areas, particularly during peak periods and special events, and keeping watch to identify and report safety and infrastructure issues throughout downtown
- Coordinating with City of West Palm Beach and the West Palm Beach Police Department when public safety concerns arise
“Our downtown and waterfront are where residents gather, families make memories, and visitors connect with our community,” said Mayor Keith A. James. “The Downtown Ambassador program reflects what can be accomplished when the City and the DDA work together to keep these public spaces clean, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. Expanding these services is an investment in the quality of life that makes West Palm Beach such a special place.”
In addition to administering the Downtown Ambassador program, the DDA’s work includes improvements to public spaces, business assistance, community programming, mobility partnerships, research and studies that help guide future improvements, and advocacy on issues affecting the downtown district.
