Summer in Paradise (S.I.P.)

SIP 17_Logo_TableSUMMER IN PARADISE (dubbed S.I.P.) is here and you’re invited to have a S.I.P. and soak up the fun.

The City of West Palm Beach will celebrate the return of its popular Summer in Paradise (S.I.P) annual celebration beginning June 7 through July 26, 2018.  This free, summer-long promotion will transport residents and visitors into a colorful collection of classic tales and treasured life-lessons along the waterfront.

Fairy Tale Playhouses
Debuting on Thursday, June 7, 2018 during the S.I.P kickoff at Clematis by Night.  This year’s Summer in Paradise will also feature fifteen child-size playhouses, collectively referred to as the “Fairy Tale Playhouses.” In partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Palm Beach County, the mini-homes will provide entertainment and shade to the smallest of waterfront visitors, all while raising awareness of affordable housing. Each playhouse will represent a fairy tale, signifying the global outreach of Habitat for Humanity. Local artists will interpret the tales and on the final night of Summer in Paradise the playhouses will be auctioned off in support of fifteen local nonprofits.

Additional programming  will include nightly music and pop-up performances, storytelling, poetry readings, games and interactive programming all summer long.

In addition, guests can enjoy viewing – and taking selfies – with creative and story-themed pieces, including:

• Mad Hatter Teacups
From car tire to teacup, the cup and saucer collection adorning the Great Lawn was inspired by Alice in Wonderland’s famous tea. The unique collection was created by the City of West Palm Beach.

• Big Storybook, with an updated chapter
A stopping spot for several consecutive SIP and HIP promotions, the beloved “Big Storybook,” which made its debut last summer, will return to the Waterfront – complete with a newly crafted chapter.

• Aesop’s Tables
Seven of last summer’s Aesop’s Tables art installation will be on the Waterfront. The tables were purchased at the 2017 S.I.P finale by a Go Fund Me account headed up by “A Guy on Clematis,” Aaron Wormus, who is bringing them back to the waterfront for the summer. Providing a place for a picnic, a #tbt selfie, or simply a place to sit, the added art and activation is a natural fit for the story and fairy tale theme.
