WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (May 1, 2019) – The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is encouraging visitors and residents to pedal to SunFest for an easy and environmentally friendly commuting experience. For more than a decade, the DDA has offered a free bicycle valet service for SunFest. Avoid the hassle of finding a place to chain a bike or looking for a parking spot and take advantage of the bicycle valet!
“Bike valet at SunFest continues to grow in popularity each year and is an important program to help alleviate traffic and parking difficulties that attendees often face,” said Raphael Clemente, executive director of the DDA. “Since starting the program 14 years ago, thousands of people have taken advantage of the valet service as our residents and visitors are taking advantage of alternate transportation options such as biking.”
Located behind the Visitor Center on North Clematis Street, riders are issued claim tickets in exchange for their bikes, which are kept in a secure, gated compound located near the Clematis Street entrance to SunFest. To reclaim a bicycle, valet service users must present the appropriate claim ticket to the staff monitoring the bike compound. Valet users will receive free bike lights from the Palm Beach Transportation and Planning Agency, while supplies last.
Bicycle Valet hours of operation are Thursday, May 2 to Sunday, May 5 during regular SunFest hours. Bikes left after closing time will be locked inside the enclosure and can be picked up the next day. In 2016, the Florida Festivals & Events Association recognized the DDA’s Bicycle Valet as best volunteer program with a silver award. The program also received a silver Pinnacle award from the International Festivals & Events Association for best volunteer program.
Attendees of this year’s SunFest are also invited to use SkyBike, a public bike sharing system with more than a dozen stations throughout the downtown area. Users can rent and return bikes from the convenient stations throughout the city.
