WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (November 15, 2019) – The West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) announced today that its contract with P3 Global Management (P3GM) will conclude at the end of 2019. P3GM provided the city’s first-ever bike sharing service throughout DowntownWPB and a handful of locations outside the DDA boundaries. It launched in 2015 with an agreement between the City of West Palm Beach and the DDA, to provide 150 bikes for rent at 18 stations in convenient locations. The service will gradually be phased out between now and December 31st and annual passholders will be reimbursed for the unused portions of their plans.
SkyBike was the first step in a combined mission to create a more pedestrian and bike-friendly downtown. The demand for more stations which will make it easy to access both bikes and scooters on a citywide scale prompted the change in service. This transition should begin halfway through 2020.
“We are very encouraged by the support the public has shown for the initial foray into this type of mobility in Downtown West Palm Beach,” said Raphael Clemente, Executive Director of the DDA. “We know that the next generation of bike and scooter sharing services will bring us closer to our goal of reducing vehicle traffic and offering the public efficient, fun ways to get around our city safely and quickly.”
The City of West Palm Beach issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) a new micromobility provider in September.
