WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (January 9, 2014) – The core of the flourishing art and culture scene in Downtown West Palm Beach will be showcased this month at the Continuum pop-up gallery and performance space. Sponsored by the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA), Continuum will host a diverse representation of artists of different disciplines at 312 Clematis St.
The large pop-up gallery and performance space will be on location from Jan. 22- 26 and is part of the inauguration of “Art Synergy,” the first countywide gallery walk weekend taking place in six historic art districts and coinciding with the 17th annual ArtPalmBeach, one of the most influential contemporary art fairs on Florida’s Gold Coast. Art Synergy will include gallery receptions, open artist studios, performances, museum openings, lectures and special architectural tours.
Continuum will start on Jan. 22 with the charitable event, VIP Night: Black Tie & Sneakers. The public is invited to join the exclusive evening by donating a pair of sneakers to the Divinity Dance’s Souled Out Project in partnership with Safe Place. The evening will include a gallery viewing of artwork by 20 of Palm Beach County’s most exciting artists, a fashion show by Fusion Fashion & Art, performance by world-class vocalist Raquel Williams and complimentary hors d’oeuvres and beverages provided by Downtown restaurants. In addition, guests can partake in a silent auction featuring hand-painted sneakers for men, women and children with all proceeds being donated to Safe Place. Pre-registration for the event is preferred and can be done so by accessing tickets online.
Over the course of five days, Continuum will host events and artists that incorporate all that makes up the artistic hub of Downtown West Palm Beach. On Thursday, Jan. 23 patrons can enjoy a Bombay Sapphire Happy Hour while observing urban artists at work painting public art cubes and canvases, along with live musical performances. Friday, Jan. 24, Indigo Unplugged, invites everyone to an open mic night by Smooth Bounce Entertainment that will allow all who are interested to express themselves either through words or music. The event will also feature performances by the Dreyfoos School of the Arts Student Symphony. Saturday, Jan. 25, Freestyle, will feature South Florida Symphony Orchestra and music director Sebrina Maria Alfonso, as well as allow Continuum guests to observe artists producing work in the open gallery space. During the pop-up galleries the last day, Sunday, Jan. 26, Continuum will host a brunch and panel discussion featuring Lee Ann Lester, co-founder of ArtPalmBeach and Seafairs.
