We’ve worked hard to create an environment in Downtown West Palm Beach that our pets can enjoy as much as we do. Many local businesses here, such as Furry Paws, Wagging Tails, O’Shea’s, Pizza Girls and World of Beer, go above and beyond, putting the term “pet friendly” into practice. So now that the dog days of summer are officially behind us, we think it’s time to have a day for the dogs.
The 4th Annual West Palm Beach Pup Crawl is back on Clematis Street this Sunday, September 28, from 10am to 4pm. This charity-based event is roughly 20% pub crawl, 20% family fun, 10% patriotism and 50% pet extravaganza. If our math is correct, that adds up to a 100% chance of adults, kids and canines alike all having a great time. Here’s a deeper look at the variety of four-legged fun in store (and some for those of us with two legs, as well).
It All Starts With A Tribute to The Troops
Patriotism is the underlying theme of this year’s Pup Crawl, specifically as it pertains to honoring the men and women who fight for our freedom. With that in mind, there’s really no better way to start the day than with the presentation of the American flag by the West Palm Beach Police Department Honor guard. This six-member team will perform the opening ceremony as renowned local vocalist Nick Sparandeo sings the National Anthem.
On to the Pet Portion
After the flag ceremony and National Anthem, it’s time to get man’s best friend in on the action with the Patriotic Pet Parade. For only a $5 entry fee, you can proudly parade down Clematis Street alongside your pup for the chance to win a $25 gift certificate to a local Clematis Street restaurant, a 30-day supply of doggie bags from DoggiePoopBags.com, a “Pup Crawl Tribute to the Troops” can koozie and an official award certificate! Celebrity guest judges will be on hand to choose the winners in the following categories: Best Little Dog, Best Big Dog, Best Pet/Owner Look-Alike, and Best Military Theme. Registration begins at 10am.
Once the parade is over, the professionals take the stage at 2pm. Some of the area’s top dog models will strut their stuff in All-American haute couture as part of the All-American Fur Baby Fashion show, put on by G Girl Productions. If you think your dog has what it takes, contact Laura Souza at 561-929-0890 before it’s too late!
The Human Element
Obviously this Sunday is a great day to be a dog in Downtown West Palm Beach, but there’s plenty of fun for us humans at the Pup Crawl, too! At 3pm, there will be a free dog bone stacking contest for children 8 and under. Enter your youngster in this Jenga-style contest that will test their patience and skill levels as they compete for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for the highest stacks of dog bones.
For the adults, the charities on hand will be selling raffle tickets all day for chances to win incredible prizes, including Palm Beach Dramaworks tickets and Rocco’s Tacos gift cards! Of course, there will be live music and plenty of opportunities to enjoy some of Downtown’s best pubs, bars and restaurants as well. All of the restaurants on the 200 block of Clematis Street will be offering their best food and drink with discounts for the purchase of a special wristband from participating charities at the event. In addition, more than 30 pet-related business, including groomers, boutiques, vets, pet sitters, photographers and more will be on hand to fulfill any of the pet-related needs you may have now or in the future.
A Great Event for Great Causes
Not only does the annual Pup Crawl provide a fresh way for the entire family to get out and enjoy themselves, it also provides much-needed aid and awareness to multiple charity organizations. This year’s sponsoring non-profits are Kibblez of Love, Dogs 4 Disabled Veterans and the Veterans Administration. It’s a great opportunity to get out and give back, and to have fun doing it. With that in mind, we hope to see you and your pup out and about in Downtown West Palm Beach this weekend!
